Board of Selectmen · Meeting of July 20, 2026

CT MADISON — Madison Board of Selectmen unanimously approved facility projects and equipment purchases totaling $696K on July 20. First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons led votes awarding Demco $147,442.69 for Polson Middle School library furniture replacement and BMP Construction $296,482 for Town Campus Gym renovations, both funded through FY26-27 capital and grant accounts. The board also advanced a 2003 Volvo Wheel Loader replacement and awarded The W.I.

Clark Company $252,855 for a John Deere Wheel Loader, moving equipment purchases from future-year reserves to the current fiscal year amid safety concerns. In a 4-1 decision with Selectman Wilson dissenting, the board scheduled an August 24 public hearing on a draft Affordable Housing Trust Fund ordinance; opponents raised concerns that the language could permit taxpayer funding and borrowing authority without explicit guardrails. The Ad Hoc Facilities Committee presented a comprehensive $65-70 million Buildings and Land Use Plan proposing Jeffrey adaptive reuse, DPW site consolidation, Historic Common restoration, and potential development of three town parcels to generate 136 affordable or workforce housing units.
